In Norway’s Lyngen Alps you take a ferry not a ski lift

I’ve worked in publishing for over 15 years. I got my first byline in Adrenalin, a punkish surf & snow magazine, which would later be reborn as Huck. At the time I was living in Chamonix, having fled from London, where I was meant to be doing a PhD, to immerse myself in nature and learn to snowboard. It’s all been downhill, in a good way, since then.

I’ve contributed to Guardian Travel for over 10 years, during which time I’ve camped up snowy mountains in Austria, surfed man-made waves in Snowdonia, and done my best to get by as a vegetarian non-smoker in Serbia.

I write chapters for Lonely Planet books, on topics ranging from a family-friendly hike in the French Pyrenees with a donkey called Lazou to a cycle tour for oyster-lovers in Ile de Ré. I contribute to 1843 Magazine, The Times, the Telegraph, the Financial Times, the Independent, Escapism, Mpora, and Amuse, amongst other titles.

I originally learnt my trade at the Independent, followed by Arena and Men’s Fitness, before becoming editor of Cooler Magazine. With a small but excellent team, we transformed the title into a highly-regarded action sports and style magazine for young women. We encouraged our readers to find joy in being outdoors and championed amazing female surfers, snowboarders, skaters and mountain bikers. We never featured skinny models or spoke about diets, which felt quite unusual and ground-breaking for a women’s magazine at the time.

From Cooler I went on to set up the long read features section of Mpora, a website dedicated to action sports and adventure. The section was well-received by readers and advertisers alike. Three years later, in 2018, I took the plunge to go freelance full time.

Alongside my editorial work, I’ve spoken on various panels over the years, and on the commercial side, I have over 15 years of experience in copywriting, ghostwriting, proofreading, and writing and editing branded content.

In 2022, I started the newsletter Climate & Board Sports, in which I interview surfers, snowboarders, skiers & those working in the outdoors about their experience of the climate crisis and what gives them hope for the future.

Please get in touch if you’d like to know more. Thanks.
